The mission of New Mexico Friends of Foster Children (NMFFC or "Friends") is to improve the quality of life of abused and neglected children in foster care. NMFFC provides a variety of resources that enrich these children’s lives.
NMFFC works with foster parents, CASA’s, children in foster care, social workers and Guardian ad Litem’s. Our organization provides funds for such items as:
-
Fees for Lessons & Activities - Music, Art, Dance, School Clubs, Tutoring
-
Bicycles and Helmets
-
Athletic Fees and Uniforms
-
Prom Clothes, School Pictures and Class Rings
-
Summer Camp
An important component of the program is the potential for providing long-lasting connections and mentors for children in foster care. Football shoes allow a child to participate in a sport; participation in a sport allows a child a possible connection to a mentor. A bicycle provides a child an opportunity to interact with other children in the child’s new community; having a bicycle provides a child the opportunity to develop confidence and familiarity in the new community.
While basic life necessities are provided to children in foster care, there are many unique needs which are not funded by State programs. With assistance from our friends and supporters, NMFFC can help those children in ways that shape the course of their lives.
