Training Requirements for New Board Members
After
appointment to a local board, new members are considered
provisional members until a one-day new-member orientation
training is completed. These trainings are held regularly
throughout the year in Albuquerque. The required new-member
orientation training must be completed within 6 months after
appointment. New members become ongoing members at the
beginning of the next fiscal year (July 1) after they have
attended the one-day orientation training.
New
Member Orientation Training Session—8 units for full-day
session
New
Member Board Observation—2 units for observing at least
two case reviews and discussing with local board chair
(available to provisional board members only)
Training Requirements for Ongoing Board
Members
Ongoing
board members must complete 10
training units
per
calendar year.
Attendance at either a statewide or regional CRB conference at
least once every two years is required.
Additional
training units can be accumulated by means of the following:
Online
Training Modules (on the CRB website www.nmcrb.org)—2
units for each module test completed
Online
Best Practices (on the CRB website www.nmcrb.org)
1 unit for ever 4 Best Practices read.
Online
Court Improvement Project Booklets (on the CRB website
www.nmcrb.org)
1unit for every ten pamphlets.
Child
Welfare League of American (CWLA) Online radio Blogs offers 30
minute discussions weekly. The CRB office sends emails notices
to the membership of the upcoming weekly subject matters. ½
unit is given for each CWLA discussion.
Statewide
or Regional CRB Conference—8 units for full day of
attendance; 4 units for half day of attendance
CRB
Volunteer & Orientation Manual—3 units for reading and
discussing with local board chair or SAC regional representative
Local
Board Training Visit—2 units for local training during
board review day (for example, training visit by CRB regional
specialist & volunteer coordinator)
Independent
Reading & Review—6 units for each review of an Adult
Nonfiction-General book of more than 100 pages; 4 units for each
review of an Adult Fiction or Memoir or Adult Nonfiction-General
book of 100 pages or less; 2 units for each review of a
Juvenile/Young Adult book or of a CRB-approved video.
Children's
Law Institute—4 units for each half-day event attended
Attendance
at a Court Hearing—2 units for attendance at a court
hearing
Outside
Training—2 to 8+ units for CRB-approved outside training
(CASA training, foster parent training, CYFD or related
professional training, or any other learning experience shown to
be relevant to the work of a CRB board member)
Training Requirements for Board Chairs
All
board chairs must attend the annual board chair training unless
an exception is granted by the CRB project director or CRB
regional specialist & volunteer coordinator. If an exception
is granted then the board chair must take an online training
module that will be provided. The 8 training units received for
attending this training will be applied toward their ongoing
member training credits.
Training Requirements for SAC Representatives
Newly
elected SAC
representatives must complete the SAC training module (either
online or on hard copy) within six months of appointment to SAC.
The 2 training units received for completing this module will be
applied toward their ongoing member training credits. New SAC
representatives are encouraged to attend a welcome and
information gathering meeting prior to their first SAC
meeting.
SAC members receive one training unit for
attending a general SAC meeting.
